Utility Allowance Increase
UTILITY ALLOWANCE INCREASE
The Burlington Housing Authority is required to annually review the cost and consumption of your utilities and adjust the utility allowances if it is determined that costs have increased or decreased.
The annual independent utility allowance review was conducted and based on consumption and costs data since January 2021, we have determined that an increase is warranted.
Your utility allowance increased within a range of $8 to $23 depending on your size apartment. This means your rent will decrease when recalculated using the new allowances by the same range. The proposed utility allowances are open for thirty days for your review and comment. They will be posted in the community centers and your site is attached to this notice. You can find your address to see your new allowance.
Any comments should be made in writing and sent to Burlington Housing Authority, PO Box 2380, Burlington, NC 27216-2380 or emailed to bha@burlingtonha.org no later than April 15, 2022.
After the thirty-day comment period and board approval, the effective date of implementation of the new utility allowances will be June 1, 2022. You will see a different rent amount on your June rent statement due to the new allowance whether or not your income and deductions changed at recertification.
Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your housing manager, Valeretta Roberts or Jeremy Melvin.
